Behind the doors
of Jermyn Street.
Tramp opened in December 1969 beneath 40 Jermyn Street in St James's, founded by Johnny Gold, Oscar Lerman and Bill Ofner and named in homage to Charlie Chaplin's Tramp. Behind its oak panelling and chandeliers it became the most discreet address in London nightlife, where photographs were never taken and guests from Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly to Michael Caine and Mick Jagger came to be left in peace. Reborn under Luca Maggiora in 2024, it remains the most storied door in St James's.
