West Hollywood · Los Angeles · An Ian Schrager hotel

PUBLICWest Hollywood

137 rooms that are each a private screening room, a nightclub conceived as the evolution of Studio 54, and The Roof, the only private park in Los Angeles, high above the Sunset Strip.

The Story

A new idea
for a new age.

For five decades Ian Schrager has thrown away the tried and true rules of hospitality and gone off in his own direction: from Studio 54 in 1977, to the invention of the boutique hotel with Morgans in 1982, to more than forty original hotels around the world.

PUBLIC West Hollywood brings his philosophy of Luxury For All to the West Coast. Not the old luxury of wealth and status symbols, but luxury reimagined: comfort, ease, humanity, freedom and time, with service that is personal, attentive and unscripted.

“I’ve always sought to go where no one else has gone. To stand alone.”Ian Schrager

The Roof

A private park
in the sky.

Three quarters of an acre, with 360 degree views of the Hollywood Hills, Downtown Los Angeles and the LA Basin. Inspired by Central Park, the Tuileries, Hyde Park and Griffith Park, and the only private park in the city.

By day

Playground

Undulating lawns and swings, sport and daily wellness classes, picnic tables in the California sun.

By night

Sanctuary

Campfires, art installations and an oversized 30 foot outdoor movie screen beneath the stars.

i

The only one

The only private park in Los Angeles, right in the middle of a world class city.

ii

Three quarters of an acre

Some 16,000 square feet of landscaped parkland above the Sunset Strip.

iii

A 30 foot screen

An oversized outdoor movie screen, in the film capital of the world.

iv

Private events

A setting of rare distinction for celebrations, screenings and gatherings.

The Rooms

Every room,
a private cinema.

Anti design: simple, effortless and refined, judged not by how the rooms look but by how they make you feel.

The Spaces

Order, born
of beautiful chaos.

World class talent from around the world, opposing forces held in balance, and something completely unexpected in the middle of it all.

The Lobby

No front desk

Arrival without ceremony: guests move straight from the Strip to their rooms, through public rooms that feel more like a living room than a hotel.

The Lobby

Warmth and intimacy

Stripped back to what truly matters: warmth, connection and comfort, with every gratuitous gesture edited away.

The Pool

Lushly landscaped

The California sun at the heart of the hotel, framed by palms and the hills beyond.

The Pool Bar

Easy and unpretentious

Food and drink that is casual, generous and rooted in quality and freshness.

Louis

Light and air

One of three food, beverage and entertainment venues, flooded with Southern Californian light.

One Bedroom Suite

Theatre on demand

The suite as a private retreat, a place to sleep, play, work and watch.

The Lobby

Colour and contradiction

Maximal and minimal at once, a meeting of opposites that somehow becomes one idea.

Artwork

Art in residence

Artwork threads through the hotel, from the public rooms to the private park on the roof.

Thoughtful subtraction

Less is not only more.
It is better.

No front deskslowing down the arrival.
No celebrity chefvying for attention.
No bulky televisiondominating the room.
No blinking lightsin the nightclub.
No formulamasquerading as luxury.

Instead: intimacy, warmth, connection and comfort.

Light

Colour as
architecture.

Corridors and staircases washed in pure saturated light: red, green and blue, a hotel that changes its mood as you move through it.

After Dark

The evolution
of Studio 54.

When the sun goes down, PUBLIC reveals another side: a speakeasy style, after hours club built around sound, with an elegant symphony of black finishes.

Schrager describes it as dancing in a sealed off, immersive sound stage, where you feel the vibrations of the music as well as hear it. Built for intimate conversation and for pure, joyful abandon.

Ian Schrager

Five decades of
breaking the rules.

1977

Studio 54

The seismic cultural explosion that changed nightlife, and culture, for good.

1982

Morgans

With Morgans, Ian Schrager invents the boutique hotel, a concept the industry has followed ever since.

Five decades

More than forty hotels

Original, one off hotels around the world, alongside restaurants, bars, nightclubs and residences, each setting a new standard.
