Chess

Play chess online, free

Welcome to the chess table at the Simply Luxury Games Room. Our Art Deco set of ivory and onyx pieces sits on a walnut and maple board, and you can play it in a classic flat view or in our three dimensional salon view. There is nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to pay.

Play the house

Choose one of four levels. Gentle is relaxed and forgiving, Club plays a solid game, Master punishes mistakes and Grandmaster plays at full strength. The house is powered by Stockfish, one of the strongest chess engines in the world. You can take back a move, flip the board and resign whenever you wish.

Play a friend

Choose Play a Friend and the room creates a private table with its own link. Send the link to your friend and the game begins as soon as they open it, on any phone, tablet or computer. Each private table seats two players; anyone else who opens the link can only watch.

The rules in brief

White moves first and players take turns. The aim is checkmate: the king is attacked and has no safe square. Castling, en passant and promotion are all supported, and the board shows every legal move when you select a piece. A game is drawn by stalemate, threefold repetition, the fifty move rule or insufficient material.
