Following the reopening of its flagship store at No. 1 Savile Row in London, Gieves & Hawkes has unveiled a new textile identity created by Scottish luxury brand Araminta Campbell. Named the House Check, the tweed is described as a modern day heirloom and intended to become part of Gieves & Hawkes’ visual language. The pattern itself draws its proportions and character from the very building that has housed the House for generations; the asymmetric proportions of the check reflect the building’s façade, from the changing scale of its windows to the interplay of light and shadow across its masonry.

The base combines two shades of navy with green, creating softness, depth and movement, whilst accents of red and gold are inspired by ceremonial uniform. Seven rounds of development refined the proportions, colours and structures of the check, resulting in a cloth with depth, character and a distinctive asymmetric construction. From the architectural character of No.1 Savile Row to the House’s military, naval and royal heritage, every element of the design was developed to create something distinctly Gieves & Hawkes, with Araminta translating these references alongside Design Director Joshua Roberto Scacheri and Head Cutter Davide Taub.

The House Check will be featured in upcoming collections from Gieves & Hawkes, evolving through new fabrications and categories. The House Check marks the beginning of a new House code for Gieves & Hawkes: rooted in its history, made through British craft and designed to become part of the House for generations to come.
