Emirates NBD convened more than a hundred Emirati technologists and innovators for UAE Codes 2026, a two day artificial intelligence hackathon conducted in collaboration with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Office. The intensive programme brought together emerging talent and seasoned practitioners to address substantive challenges through machine learning and algorithmic design.
Structured around hands on collaboration and expert mentorship, participants worked in teams to develop AI powered solutions grounded in real world applications. The hackathon model encouraged rapid prototyping and iterative problem solving, allowing teams to move swiftly from concept through to functional demonstration. Rather than theoretical exercises, the challenges presented reflected genuine operational difficulties and strategic priorities facing organisations across the emirate.
Investing in Emirati capability and technical depth
The initiative reflects a deliberate institutional strategy at Emirates NBD to strengthen the technical competency of the national workforce. By equipping Emirati talent with advanced AI capabilities and hands on experience in collaborative innovation environments, the bank positions itself as an architect of local expertise rather than merely a consumer of it. This approach aligns with the broader national agenda to develop homegrown digital leadership and reduce reliance on imported talent for cutting edge technological work.
For participants, the two day format offered compressed professional development: access to industry practitioners, exposure to enterprise grade problem solving methodologies, and the opportunity to demonstrate capability to potential employers and investors. The collaborative framework also built networks among Emirati technologists, creating connections that often extend well beyond the formal conclusion of the event.
Emirates NBD’s commitment to this work reflects confidence in Emirati technical potential and a recognition that the next wave of competitive advantage in financial services will flow through institutions that develop indigenous technological leadership.
