The white washed facade of Maison Margiela’s Tokyo Ebisu flagship, nestled at 2-8-13, has become a quietly resolute landmark in the neighbourhood for two decades. To commemorate this milestone, the house releases a limited edition zine as part of the MaisonMargiela/folders series, a project that transforms key moments in the brand’s geography into tangible, collectible objects.

Photographer Takashi Homma has composed a visual essay of Ebisu itself, capturing the district’s particular character and the context in which this austere, modernist storefront exists. The zine circulates across select newsstands throughout the neighbourhood, within the store, and is shared globally through Dropbox, making the publication simultaneously hyperlocal and accessible to those who cannot visit Tokyo.

The tactile nature of the zine reflects Maison Margiela’s philosophy: an object to hold, to inhabit, to return to. It becomes a document not merely of a milestone, but of a place, a moment, and the careful attention the house has always paid to where its work lives. The white pages and restrained typography echo the aesthetic discipline that defines the flagship’s interior, where white walls and geometric precision create an almost monastic setting for garments that challenge conventional form.

This publication sits within Maison Margiela’s broader practice of archiving its own story through the folders project, which has documented pivotal locations and moments across the brand’s history. Each edition transforms ephemeral experience into permanent record, grounding the house’s conceptual practice in something readers can fold, carry and share.

The zine is available at Maison Margiela Tokyo Ebisu and select Ebisu newsstands, with a digital edition shared through Dropbox for collectors worldwide.
