Berluti transforms leather into landscape with hand painted Trois Nuits

The Trois Nuits briefcase becomes a canvas for Berluti's leathercrafters in a new collaboration inspired by Antoine de Saint Exupéry's beloved story. Layer upon layer of colour and careful etching render a mountain scene in Venezia calf leather.

The mountain emerges slowly from cream to shadow across Venezia leather, each brushstroke deliberate, each tone building beneath the previous layer. This is the Trois Nuits briefcase reimagined through the lens of a fairy tale. Colours are applied by hand before lines are etched into leather to recreate the mountain scene from Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s The Little Prince, a collaboration that draws its inspiration from one of the book’s most resonant moments.

What Berluti has accomplished here marks a shift in the house’s visual language. Brushwork has been added for the first time to Berluti’s vocabulary, atop already patinated leather, offering an opportunity to emulate the artist’s own watercolours. The patina, that hallmark technique of layered colour which defines the maison’s aesthetic, becomes something deeper when combined with hand applied painting, creating what feels less like embellishment and more like an object that has absorbed light and distance.

Tattooing augments the laser, where motifs are traced deep into the surface of the leather, lending texture and dimension to what might otherwise remain flat. The result speaks to the narrative within the leather itself: a traveller’s bag that carries not luggage alone but memory, longing and the kind of quiet beauty that defines Berluti’s approach to craftsmanship. As the heir to Alessandro Berluti, both a bootmaker and shoemaker, Maison Berluti remains inherently circular, and the Trois Nuits Briefcase is constructed in Venezia calf leather with cotton linen lining and is made in Italy.
