Second Layer’s vintage white tee speaks in tongues of love

Second Layer has produced a cream coloured cotton tee rendered in the studio’s signature graphic vernacular, where typography and illustration collide in a deliberate visual noise that somehow sings. Blue and red ink move across the front in overlapping declarations: te quiero, grá go deo. The words stack and tilt and layer over one another, creating the impression of a garment that has been loved through time, marked by hands and conversations and the slow accumulation of meaning.

The shirt reads like a love letter written across multiple languages and timelines. Firm Rolas sits bold at the chest; below it, vignettes and geometric forms suggest a world of private jokes and inside references. A studded black belt cinches the waist, anchoring the composition with hardware and restraint. The overall effect is one of controlled chaos, the kind of deliberate dishevelment that requires real craft to achieve.

Second Layer, the New York label known for its graphic tee explorations and collaborative sensibility, has built its practice around the idea that a t shirt can hold narrative weight. This piece does precisely that. The cream ground feels generous and worn in without damage; the inks sit with the right kind of opacity.

The tee will be available Saturday from one to five in the afternoon at Maxfield in Los Angeles.
