The InterContinental Osaka has dressed its autumn afternoon tea in wood and warmth. The hotel’s new wooden stand, fashioned from natural timber, holds the season’s most considered flavours: above, two parfaits sit crowned with cream and garnish; below, an arrangement of savouries and sweets tells the story of harvest.
The savoury course speaks of Japanese luxury and European tradition entwined. Wagyu beef and chestnut meet in a delicate hojicha roll, while duck and apple brioche brings the sharp sweetness of autumn fruit to richly savoury meat. These small courses arrive on tiered timber, their presentation as assured as their ingredients.
The sweets that follow belong only to November. Persimmon tartlet catches the fruit at its golden peak; chestnut and cassis Mont Blanc offers the season’s classical note; grape and black tea parfait marries the vineyard with fine leaf. Fig scones, warm and tender, arrive alongside, their subtle earthiness a quiet counterpoint to the refined sweetness around them.
The service arrives with choice. Original coffee from the hotel’s own kitchen or a selection of fine teas from TWG Tea can accompany the course. A glass of champagne, if chosen, adds its own autumn note: the bubbles lift and refresh, a perfect complement to the season’s abundance.
The Harvest Festival Afternoon Tea runs from 2 to 29 November, offered in three seatings between 11:30 and 18:30, each lasting two hours. Reservation begins at 6,800 yen per person; 9,700 yen includes champagne.
