Fortnum & Mason’s Hot Chocolate Bar has opened on the lower ground floor of its Piccadilly flagship as a seasonal celebration of one of winter’s most cherished indulgences. The venture draws on the house’s considerable expertise with chocolate, combining Valrhona drinking chocolate with ingredients drawn from Fortnum’s own collections.

The experience unfolds across several temptations. Two signature Whoppalossus Hot Chocolates form the foundation of the menu, each crowned with an elaborate toppping of whipped cream and biscuits. Those inclined towards customisation may construct their own creation, selecting from an array of biscuits, sauces and delicious toppings to personalise their drink. A dedicated toppings station encourages this playful experimentation, transforming the act of taking hot chocolate into something altogether more theatrical.

The presentation speaks to Fortnum & Mason’s particular gift for turning a simple refreshment into a considered occasion. The signature cups bear the house initials in deep teal, whilst tiered glass stands and carefully curated displays of ingredients in glass vessels create a sense of ritual and refinement. The menu board itself, framed in soft gold against deep burgundy, signals the care lavished upon every element.

This is not merely hot chocolate but an expression of Fortnum & Mason’s philosophy: that even a seasonal pop up deserves the thoughtfulness, quality and visual elegance that define the house at its best. The Hot Chocolate Bar operates seasonally on the lower ground floor at Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly, London.
