The curtains that frame BarBistro’s intimate dining spaces are not merely theatrical backdrop; they are knitted textile, drawn from the considered practice of By Borre, the Dutch studio known for transforming yarn into architectural experience. Burnt sienna and deep plum folded into vertical channels, the fabric rises from floor to ceiling, creating an enclosure both warm and contemplative. The weave catches light in a way that feels almost tactile through the lens, each thread visible enough to suggest the labour of its making.

BarBistro itself came to life this October within Kazerne, the warehouse in Eindhoven that has long held a reputation for design with genuine vision and hospitality that feels considered rather than performed. The new space is the vision of DaphnaLaurens and Dick Spierenburg, who recognised that texture and material could do the work of mood and mystery better than any colour palette alone. Rounded chairs upholstered in orange knit fabric cluster beneath the suspended curtains, their seats rendered in the same meticulous textile that forms the walls. A grey knitted variant appears elsewhere, suggesting a colour story that feels intuitive rather than designed by formula.

By Borre’s work here feels woven into the architecture rather than applied to it. The studio, which has built its reputation on the belief that knitted textile can be structural and sculptural, finds in BarBistro a complete expression of that philosophy. The space itself becomes a kind of three dimensional textile, where fabric is not ornament but the language through which the room speaks to those who sit within it. The knit’s subtle fleck and texture hold the eye; the drape suggests both softness and presence. It is a rare collaboration where the maker’s hand remains visible in every corner of a finished interior.
