CHESTER KIEFFER CLAIMS MAIDEN CARRERA CUP VICTORY AT THE NÜRBURGRING

The Nürburgring delivered a weekend of close racing, changing fortunes and a significant breakthrough for one of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland’s emerging talents. On Sunday, 20-year-old Luxembourg driver Chester Kieffer of Schumacher CLRT claimed his maiden victory in the one-make series after 20 laps of a tightly contested race.

Kieffer’s win came after an eventful 30-minute contest staged as part of the DTM weekend. Porsche Junior Marcus Amand of Forch Racing by Atlas Ward finished second, while Sam Jongejan of Team75 Bernhard completed the overall podium in third, securing his first overall podium in the championship. Kieffer also recorded the fastest lap of the race, adding another distinction to an already significant weekend.

The race began with championship contender Alexander Tauscher on pole position, but Kieffer moved ahead within the opening metres. The early lead was interrupted on the second lap when an incident towards the rear of the 32-car field brought out the safety car. Racing resumed with 19 minutes remaining, placing an already closely packed field under renewed pressure.

Tauscher’s afternoon subsequently became increasingly difficult. After becoming involved in a series of position battles, the Target driver was instructed by race control to drop back following an incorrect manoeuvre. With five minutes remaining, he was running fourth when contact with another car sent him down the order to 22nd. Championship rival Theo Oeverhaus was also caught in the incident and sustained damage to his car, although he recovered to finish eighth.

At the front, Kieffer remained composed to take the chequered flag ahead of Amand and Jongejan. Keagan Masters, driving for Proton Competition, finished fourth and therefore retained his position at the top of the championship standings. Porsche Junior Flynt Schuring was fifth, followed by Dirk Schouten, Matheus Ferreira and Oeverhaus. Caleb Sumich of Target finished ninth.

Kieffer’s result marks a particularly notable step in his first season. His victory also strengthens his position in the rookie classification, where he leads Sam Jongejan by 11 points. The young driver entered the Nürburgring weekend as part of the Porsche Talent Pool, a development programme intended to support promising competitors as they progress through Porsche’s motorsport structure.

“I’m really happy about my first win in the Carrera Cup,” Kieffer said after the race, describing the result as an important boost in confidence. His fastest lap also places him in contention for the season-ending Fastest Lap Award, which will be presented to the driver who records the most fastest laps during the campaign. The prize is a Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition.

For Jongejan, third place represented another important milestone. The Dutch driver had already finished on the podium on Saturday and followed that result with his first overall podium finish on Sunday. Amand, meanwhile, completed another strong weekend with second place, having also taken a podium finish in the previous race.

The Nürburgring weekend was also significant away from the main classification. Porsche used the occasion to bring together drivers from the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland Talent Pool and the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool. Joel Hohmann, Mads K. Ljungberg, Ragnar Simuland and Nikodem Sobczyk spent time with the Carrera Cup teams, gaining insight into the demands of competing in one of Porsche’s established one-make racing series.

Such initiatives form part of Porsche’s longstanding connection between competition and driver development. The company’s motorsport heritage stretches back many decades, while its broader history began in Stuttgart in 1931, when Ferdinand Porsche established his engineering office at Kronenstrasse 24. The company later moved to Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, which remains closely associated with Porsche’s identity and production history.

The weekend also provided a glimpse towards the Nürburgring’s own history. With the circuit preparing to mark its centenary in 2027, Porsche Deutschland presented the 911 GT3 100 Jahre Nürburgring. The special-edition model draws on the long relationship between Porsche and the Eifel circuit, which has served both as a stage for motorsport competition and as an important environment for testing production cars. Only 100 examples are planned for the German market, with customer deliveries scheduled for the anniversary year.

The unveiling added another layer to a weekend already defined by Porsche’s relationship with the Nürburgring. The circuit’s demanding character has long made it a significant reference point for performance development, while its place in motorsport history gives the setting particular relevance to a championship built around the Porsche 911 Cup car.

On the championship table, however, the most important story remains the fight for the title. Masters continues to lead with 210 points, but Schuring is only seven points behind on 203. Tauscher remains within reach on 186, followed by Oeverhaus on 183. With a maximum of 50 points still available across the final two races, the championship is yet to be decided.

The rookie standings are similarly competitive. Kieffer leads with 248 points, ahead of Jongejan on 237 and Target’s Caleb Sumich on 186. In the ProAm classification, Michael Essmann leads with 288 points, while Sören Spreng follows on 277. The teams’ championship is headed by Proton Competition on 347 points, followed by Schumacher CLRT on 306 and Target on 277.

The season will conclude at the Hockenheimring from 9 to 11 October, when races 15 and 16 will settle the 2026 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland title.

Until then, the Nürburgring leaves the championship in an appropriately unsettled state. Kieffer has found his first victory at precisely the moment when the established contenders can afford the fewest mistakes, while Masters, Schuring, Tauscher and Oeverhaus remain separated by a margin that leaves every remaining lap consequential. In a championship built around closely matched machinery, the final rounds will ultimately be decided not by reputation, but by precision under pressure.
