PAGANI HUAYRA 70 DERECHO MAKES ITS WORLD PREMIERE AT GOODWOOD

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where historic racing machinery and contemporary performance cars share the same stretch of Sussex hillside, Pagani Automobili chose to reveal a particularly personal expression of its philosophy. The Huayra 70 Derecho made its world premiere at the 2026 event, becoming the second of three Huayra 70 creations commissioned to mark Horacio Pagani’s 70th birthday.

The new few-off occupies a carefully curated Pagani display alongside the Zonda F Roadster and Utopia Roadster, while two other cars — the Huayra Codalunga Speedster and track-focused Huayra R with its optional Tempesta package — took to the famous Goodwood Hill Climb. Together, the cars presented different interpretations of the San Cesario sul Panaro marque’s approach to performance, from open-air elegance to uncompromising circuit capability.

The Derecho itself takes its name from a meteorological phenomenon associated with powerful, organised straight-line winds. The reference is unusually appropriate for a car conceived around a sense of directional force. Its form combines the visual language of the Huayra with a highly individual specification, conceived through Pagani’s Grandi Complicazioni division, the part of the Atelier dedicated to particularly bespoke projects developed in close dialogue with clients.

Visually, the car is defined first by its exposed carbon-fibre bodywork. Pearl Orange and Inky Blue form the principal colour scheme, allowing the intricate weave beneath the finish to remain an important part of the composition. The lower sections and central monocoque are treated in a deep, transparent Inky Blue, creating a visual transition beneath the warmer Pearl Orange of the main body.

Under direct light, the Pearl Orange develops golden reflections, adding warmth to a surface otherwise dominated by the technical character of the carbon fibre. Rather than concealing the material, the treatment draws attention to the precision of its construction and the layered nature of the bodywork.

The exterior is further detailed with bespoke components machined from solid aluminium and finished in Glossy Titanium. These elements are integrated into the body without disrupting the overall form, while the same finish extends to the custom Huayra 70 Titanium wheels. The result is a restrained metallic counterpoint to the more expressive orange and blue exterior.

Inside, the palette becomes lighter. Ceramic White leather is paired with Tricolore Blue leather and finished with bespoke contrasting stitching. The relationship between cabin and exterior is particularly deliberate in two small but prominent details: the stripe at the 12 o’clock position on the steering wheel and the gear knob are both finished in Pearl Orange, carrying the exterior colour into the driving environment.

Beneath those visual details lies a formidable technical specification. The Huayra 70 Derecho uses a Pagani V12 60° engine with a 5,980cc displacement and twin turbochargers, developed specifically for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG. It produces 864 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 1,100 Nm of torque between 2,800 and 5,900 rpm. Power is delivered through a Pagani by Xtrac seven-speed manual transverse gearbox to the rear wheels, with an electromechanical self-locking differential. Its electronically limited maximum speed is 350 km/h.

The central monocoque combines Carbon-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62, with front and rear subframes in chromium-molybdenum steel and carbon-fibre body panels. Independent double-wishbone suspension uses electronically adjustable and interconnected dampers, while Brembo CCM carbon-ceramic discs measure 398mm at the front and 380mm at the rear. Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres are fitted in 265/30 R20 dimensions at the front and 355/25 R21 at the rear.

The technical architecture is characteristic of Pagani’s long-running effort to treat engineering and design as closely connected disciplines. That philosophy can be traced to the origins of the company itself. Horacio Pagani founded Modena Design in 1991 in San Cesario sul Panaro to develop advanced composite-material technologies. Pagani Automobili was subsequently established in 1998, with the company developing its first production hypercar, the Zonda C12, which made its public debut in 1999. The Atelier remains based in the Motor Valley near Modena, where Pagani’s work continues to bring composite engineering, mechanical development and handcrafted detailing together.

That evolution is important to understanding the role of Grandi Complicazioni. Pagani does not approach its limited creations merely as exercises in rarity. The division provides a framework for highly individual projects in which the owner’s preferences can influence materials, colours, finishes and other elements of the car. The Huayra 70 Derecho therefore belongs to a tradition of Pagani creations in which personalisation is treated as part of the design process itself.

The Goodwood setting reinforces that connection between technical achievement and automotive culture. The Festival of Speed has become an annual meeting point for racing history, new performance technology and enthusiast culture, and Pagani has maintained a relationship with the event through successive appearances. In 2026, the marque used the Hill Climb to present two distinctly different sides of its Huayra family.

The Huayra Codalunga Speedster represents the more open and sculptural interpretation. Derived from the Huayra Codalunga, it was developed by Grandi Complicazioni with a focus on long, clean proportions and an open cockpit. Alongside it, the Huayra R with Tempesta package provided a more circuit-oriented counterpoint, its presence on the hill highlighting the performance potential that sits beneath Pagani’s more artistic exterior language.

The world premiere of the Derecho also carries a personal dimension for Horacio Pagani. The three Huayra 70 examples were conceived to mark his 70th birthday, making the project a reflection of both the company’s history and its founder’s continuing involvement in its creative direction. Pagani’s official history repeatedly describes the Atelier as a place in which engineering, craftsmanship and artistic thinking operate together — an idea that remains visible in the smallest details of the Derecho.

Pagani’s international presence has also expanded significantly since those early years. In the United Arab Emirates, the company appointed Al Habtoor Motors as its exclusive official distributor in 2022, responsible for sales and after-sales operations throughout the Emirates. The partnership also provides bespoke customer services and configuration support. Pagani’s official dealer network remains the appropriate reference for verifying authorised representation and service.

Ultimately, the Huayra 70 Derecho is an unusually concentrated expression of what Pagani has pursued since its beginning: the idea that a hypercar can be engineered with the discipline of a machine while receiving the attention normally associated with an individually crafted object. At Goodwood, surrounded by decades of automotive history, its significance lies not simply in its performance figures or limited production, but in the way those elements have been translated into a singular piece of design. The Derecho arrives as a reminder that, at the highest level of automotive craftsmanship, speed and individuality need not exist at opposite ends of the spectrum.
