There is a particular electricity that pulses through urban spaces when the everyday is observed with a painter’s eye. Pam Evelyn has long understood this alchemy, finding in the gritty poetry of streets and structures something far more profound than mere documentation. Her forthcoming exhibition at Pace Gallery Seoul channels this vision into a new body of work created between London and the French Riviera, where the textures of asphalt and concrete become vehicles for something transcendent.

The Wild Asphalt gathers paintings alongside works on paper, each piece a meditation on transformation and potential. Evelyn’s practice excavates the overlooked beauty inherent in urban landscapes, rendering them not as backdrops but as protagonists in their own right. These are spaces where movement converges, where time leaves its mark, where the mundane becomes luminous.

The exhibition opens on November 12th and continues through January 9th, 2027. On the evening of November 11th, Evelyn herself will discuss the new works in an artist talk moderated by Geun jun Lim, offering insight into the visual language she has developed across this compelling new series. The conversation will be followed by an opening reception, an opportunity to encounter these pieces in person and to experience directly the layered complexity that distinguishes her vision.
For those drawn to contemporary painting that refuses the predictable, that finds grandeur in the overlooked and meaning in materials weathered by time, this exhibition represents a singular moment. Evelyn’s Seoul presentation marks the first occasion her work has been shown in Korea, bringing with it the accumulated refinement of a practice rooted in keen observation and painterly sophistication.
