A commission arrives not as a request for jewellery but as the desire to capture something ineffable: the particular alchemy of a long friendship, the shared language of six distinct people who have chosen to walk through life together. This was the conversation that began when a client approached Alice Cicolini with the vision of creating six matching necklaces for her closest friends, each one the same, and yet each one entirely itself.

The designer turned to two collections that speak a complementary visual vocabulary. Silver Tile emerged from years of solitary wandering through Delhi’s Lodhi Gardens, where the turquoise tiles of the Shisha Gumbad caught the light in scalloped rhythms, their sacred geometry echoing the Rajasthani Pichwai tradition of marking out sanctified space. Sari, by contrast, draws its language from the woven patterns of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Benares, where bands of geometry sit luminous against saturated colour. Between them, these collections hold a shared understanding of how pattern and hue can tell stories across continents and centuries.

Each pendant centres on a single stone, surrounded by enamel chosen in intimate conversation with that stone’s own colour. A honeyed gem settles into soft white. A pale lemon stone rings bright with cobalt. Violet meets lilac. A sky blue glows beside neon pink. The chromatic dialogue continues beneath, where each pendant’s domed reverse holds its own saturated conversation: crisp white, deep lapis, a glowing red orange, crossed by a band of the Sari pattern that only the wearer will know.

The Hand That Completes the Work

What transforms colour into jewellery, what allows a band of deep blue or a scallop of neon pink to sit with such precision against gold, is the hand of Stanislav Reymer. The London based enameller whose partnership with Cicolini spans years of commissioned pieces brings to each necklace the exacting mastery that fine enamelling demands. His hand lacquering, his understanding of exactly where each colour belongs and the finish it requires, elevates these pendants from beautiful to complete.

Six necklaces. Six keepsakes that hold within their geometry and colour a very particular friendship, a language of pattern and stone that belongs only to these six voices. Whether a commission begins with heirloom stones, newly cut gems, heritage metals or ethically sourced gold, the resulting piece will carry its own truth, its own narrative of who commissioned it, and why.
