Beauty, in its truest form, resists singular definition. It arrives not as proclamation but as whisper, as gesture, as the subtle shift of light across skin. It dwells in texture as much as colour, in the precision of a matte finish and the luminosity of satin, in the bold declaration of a vinyl lip and the understated elegance of shadow.

This meditation on beauty’s multiplicity finds form in Byredo’s collaboration with Numéro Netherlands for their Issue 15, ‘Decoding Beauty’. The Swedish house, long known for its sophisticated approach to fragrance and beauty, has translated that same philosophical enquiry into a palette of carefully considered products. Each shade, each texture, each formula speaks to a different facet of what beauty might mean.

A Language Beyond Words
The editorial explores beauty as communication, as a means of self expression that transcends the purely visual. The eyeshadow Borealis captures something of the ethereal, those shifting Aurora tones that exist somewhere between earthbound reality and something more luminous. The matte and satin lipsticks offer contrasting philosophies: the matte On The Edge and Eperdu suggest boldness tempered with restraint, whilst Redolence in satin speaks to a softer, more fluid approach to colour.

The liquid lipsticks extend this conversation into territory that feels more contemporary, more malleable. Vinyl Fantôme arrives in three distinct visions: Flushed, Red Light and the defining statement of Marriage in its matte interpretation. These are colours and finishes for those who understand beauty as something fluid, something that shifts with intention and mood.

What emerges from this collaboration is not a prescriptive beauty lesson but rather an invitation to consider the extraordinary range of expression available through colour, through texture, through the marriage of pigment and formula. It is beauty understood as language, nuanced and complex, refusing to be flattened into a single definition.

The images themselves, lensed with considered artistry, present beauty not as aspiration alone but as present reality. The models, the hair, the makeup, the nails, the carefully orchestrated set design all cohere around a singular thesis: that beauty speaks in many voices, and each one matters.
