The French brasserie has long served as the soul of convivial dining, a place where the architecture of hospitality unfolds across breakfast, lunch and the lingering evening. Café François, the London establishment born from the vision of François O’Neill, Ed Wyand and Matthew Ryle, now extends that philosophy across continents, bringing its distinctive interpretation of café culture to Dubai’s DIFC in early 2027.

The lineage runs deep. Group François began in 2020 with Maison François in St James’s, a modern French brasserie drawing inspiration from the dining institutions of Paris, Alsace and Lyon. The concept evolved in 2024 when Café François opened in Borough Yards, a vibrant all day restaurant that distilled the essence of Parisian cafés and the stylish bistros of Montreal into one gracious space. This new venture in Dubai represents the culmination of three years of meticulous planning between the founders and their partners at Keybourne Group.

The menu promises that familiar marriage of French classicism and global influence, with trolley service playing a prominent theatrical role, a signature touch inherited from Maison François that transforms each meal into occasion. Matthew Ryle’s culinary direction encompasses breakfast, lunch and dinner service, drawing from seasonal ingredients and the group’s philosophy of warm, unpretentious excellence.

Design and Atmosphere

Studio Shayne Brady has orchestrated the interiors with considerable sophistication. The space draws design inspiration from the Borough Market flagship, featuring oak panelled banquettes, mosaic tiling, bespoke lighting and neon signage that creates an inviting atmosphere that evolves throughout the day. The group’s signature timepieces, both internal and external, punctuate the design, grounding the space in a sense of considered character.

What emerges is a restaurant conceived as sanctuary for the rhythms of urban life. Guests might drift in for coffee and pastry, return for a measured lunch, or settle into an evening that unfolds without hurry. The restaurant opens seven days a week, becoming the sort of convivial gathering place that defines the best of café culture: welcoming, unhurried and suffused with genuine hospitality.

The arrival of Café François in DIFC reflects a broader appetite for restaurants that honour classical traditions whilst embracing contemporary sensibilities. For Dubai’s established residents, visiting professionals and discerning travellers, the opening promises something that has become increasingly rare: a place of genuine character, where the details speak quietly but with considerable authority, and where one might simply belong.
