F. Fern’s audio journey As the Season Turns ventures this month into the Scottish glens, where the dark damp of autumn conceals moments of luminous beauty. Bright ferns, mosses and fungi glow across steep slopes of rock, each species carrying its own narratives. In a stony stream winds through this remote landscape swim trout, handsome and wise, while buzzards call from heights above.

The November episode, created in collaboration with naturalist and garden writer Lia Leendertz, captures the particular magic of late autumn when winter constellations glow with their special year end brightness, disturbed only by the glow of November’s supermoon. The podcast is accompanied by illustrations by Maya C, whose careful watercolour renderings of mosses and ferns bring the glen’s botanical story to life on the page, alongside folkloric narratives and lyrical observations on water and seasonal change.

As the Season Turns has garnered considerable recognition this year: a gold medal at the Signal Awards, high commendation in the British Podcast Awards, and a nomination in the prestigious APAs, with the full results to be announced in late November. The podcast continues its successful run, available wherever podcasts are found, offering listeners a sanctuary for the kind of slow, attentive observation that luxury now requires: the luxury of stopping, listening and truly seeing the natural world.
