Heesen eschews the formal presentation. During its time at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the Dutch shipyard chose instead to host a series of conversations at its Atelier on Pier 66, drawing captains, owners’ representatives, brokers, designers and press to the table for dinners and lunches shaped by a single, forward looking question: what will matter in yachting in 2035 that does not matter today.

The question itself reveals something fundamental about the yard’s philosophy. Heesen does not simply build yachts; it builds them in conversation with those who know them most intimately. A captain who spends months aboard understands how a yacht lives differently than the designers who conceived it. An owner’s representative knows what will sustain value and purpose across a decade. A broker reads the market’s emerging appetites. The conversations at the Atelier drew from that collective intelligence.

The installation at the show floor posed five themes: health and longevity, sustainability, smart technology, adventure and exploration, and personalisation. Visitors could share their thoughts across the five columns of the display, each marked with blue spheres that accumulated to visualise what the industry believes will shape the future. It was participatory, unpretentious and rooted in genuine curiosity about how yachting will evolve.

Heesen’s approach reflects a shipyard confident enough to ask what it should never change as well as what it must adapt. That balance between preserving core values and responding to the future is the signature of a maker secure in its heritage but alive to the moment. The conversations continue, and the yard has invited all who visited to remain part of that dialogue as it shapes what comes next.
