A medlar form rises with quiet assurance from the table, its surface possessing the softness of fresh cream, luminous with the particular white of ash. Born from the longstanding collaboration between Jars and Pierre Casenove, the Artisan collection celebrates craftsmanship and material through a series of large scale vases inspired by the artist’s personal works, with free flowing, organic forms, shaped by hand, revealing the uniqueness of each piece. Each vase emerges entirely different from its neighbour, carrying the subtle signatures of the ceramicist’s gestures.

The piece measures 35 centimetres in length and 28 centimetres in height, entirely handmade with passion in the French factory in Drôme. The white ash glaze is applied by ladle, a technique requiring years of accumulated knowledge. Founded in 1857 in Southern France, Jars Céramistes creates unique, handcrafted stoneware with vibrant colours and natural pigments, each piece reflecting over 150 years of artisanal tradition and a commitment to environmental care. The workshop remains rooted in the Drôme, where each piece is shaped in stoneware and fired at high temperature, known as “grand feu”, at 1280°C in their atelier in Anneyron.

Positioned on a timber table beside a considered arrangement of dahlias, gerberas and wild grasses, the vase reveals its true nature: neither purely decorative nor strictly utilitarian, but rather an object that honours both purposes with genuine grace. The ceramic vase is watertight and waiting to receive whatever flowers suit the hour. It stands as an exercise in restraint and substance, the kind of piece that improves a room simply by existing within it.
