LOTUS ELETRE X BRINGS LONG-RANGE HYBRID PERFORMANCE TO EUROPE
Lotus has opened orders for the Eletre X in mainland Europe, introducing a new hybrid architecture to its high-performance SUV range. Combining electric driving with an onboard generator, rapid charging and Lotus-focused chassis engineering, the Eletre X is designed to address the demands of both everyday journeys and longer-distance driving.

Lotus is entering a new phase of its performance story with the Eletre X, a hybrid variant of its Eletre SUV that introduces the marque’s proprietary X-Hybrid architecture. Orders opened across mainland Europe on 3 June 2026, with prices beginning at €96,990 for the Eletre X H550 and rising to €119,990 for the flagship H1000. Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to European homologation.
The Eletre X has been conceived around a relatively straightforward proposition: retain the immediate response associated with electric propulsion while giving drivers greater flexibility over long-distance journeys. Rather than relying solely on regenerative energy recovery, the new system uses a petrol engine as an onboard generator, allowing the battery to be replenished while the vehicle is moving.

At its centre is a 70 kWh battery operating through a 900V electrical architecture. The Eletre X combines this with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 150 kW onboard generator. Lotus says the system is capable of providing up to 350 kilometres of electric-only driving under preliminary WLTP testing, while the combined WLTP range is targeted at more than 1,200 kilometres. The vehicle also has a 52-litre fuel tank, giving the powertrain additional flexibility for longer journeys.
Charging is another significant part of the package. With a compatible 350 kW DC charger, Lotus states that the battery can move from 20 to 80 per cent in approximately nine minutes. Maximum DC charging power is listed at 436 kW, while an 11 kW AC connection takes approximately 7.2 hours for a full charge. These figures remain subject to final European homologation.
The architecture is intended to keep electric propulsion at the centre of the driving experience. Energy management continuously adjusts between battery power, onboard generation and hybrid assistance according to factors including vehicle speed, battery state of charge and driver demand. For everyday use, this allows the Eletre X to operate predominantly on electric power, while the combustion engine provides additional energy during extended or demanding journeys.
Performance remains central to the Eletre X, particularly in the H1000 specification. The flagship model produces a claimed 700 kW, equivalent to 952 PS, with 935 Nm of torque delivered through dual permanent-magnet motors and all-wheel drive. Lotus quotes 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h. The H550 produces 405 kW, or 550 PS, and completes the same sprint in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h.
The engineering challenge is not simply to make a large SUV fast, but to preserve the characteristics traditionally associated with Lotus. The Eletre X therefore incorporates a series of chassis systems intended to maintain control and agility despite its size.
The H1000 features 48V active anti-roll control, capable of delivering up to 1,400 Nm of roll-stabilising torque, alongside dual-chamber air suspension and dual-valve adaptive dampers. The dampers can respond to changing road and load conditions in as little as two milliseconds. A double-wishbone front suspension, active torque management and specially developed Pirelli P Zero 5 LTS tyres complete the principal chassis package, while six-piston Brembo front brakes support repeated high-load braking.
Aerodynamics also play an important role. Lotus uses what it describes as a “porosity” approach, directing airflow through as well as around the body to balance cooling, aerodynamic efficiency and stability. An active grille shutter manages airflow, while an active rear spoiler can generate up to 120 kg of downforce under braking.
Weight has traditionally been an important part of Lotus engineering philosophy, and the Eletre X continues to apply that principle within the constraints of a modern SUV. Lotus says the hybrid model is up to 120 kg lighter than the fully electric Eletre 900, with weight savings made across areas including the body structure, electric drive system and battery base plate.

Inside, the Eletre X takes a more restrained technological approach. Slim digital displays are combined with physical controls for key functions, while a head-up display is designed to keep essential information within the driver’s line of sight. Lotus Hyper OS provides the main infotainment interface.
The cabin can also be equipped with a 23-speaker KEF audio system using Uni-Q technology. Behind the scenes, 30 perception sensors and NVIDIA Thor computing architecture support the vehicle’s wider electronic systems and driver-assistance capabilities. Materials include carbon fibre, Alcantara and Wyron Truecycled, an upcycled textile used as part of Lotus’ wider approach to material development.
The Eletre X is particularly significant because it places a new powertrain architecture alongside a brand identity historically associated with lightweight sports cars and motorsport. Lotus was founded in 1952 by Colin Chapman, who established the Lotus Engineering Company after developing and racing lightweight cars in the early post-war period. The company’s early reputation was built on engineering efficiency, competition success and an emphasis on handling. Lotus later established itself in Formula One, winning seven Constructors’ Championships and six Drivers’ Championships.
Its connection with Hethel, Norfolk, dates from 1966, when Lotus moved into the former RAF Hethel airfield. The site remains central to the company’s engineering and vehicle development activities, while Lotus has expanded its global manufacturing and technology operations in recent years.
That history provides useful context for the Eletre X. The car does not attempt to replicate the dimensions or simplicity of a classic Lotus sports car; instead, it applies the marque’s stated focus on driver involvement to a substantially larger vehicle and a more complex powertrain.

The Eletre X H550 and H1000 are initially being offered across key mainland European markets including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden. UK deliveries are currently expected in summer 2027, subject to right-hand-drive homologation. Lotus has not announced the Eletre X as a UAE-market launch in this release, so no UAE availability is included here.
The significance of the Eletre X ultimately lies in the way it combines several competing priorities: electric-first driving, extended range, rapid charging, substantial performance and the physical scale required of a luxury SUV. Lotus has spent decades refining the relationship between weight, handling and driver response. With the Eletre X, that philosophy is being tested against a very different automotive landscape — one in which performance is increasingly measured not only by speed, but also by how intelligently a car manages energy, distance and everyday usability.
