Golden suns catch the light across cream and white boxes, their radiating rays rendered in burnished leaf, each one hand touched by Parisian illustrator Jacques Merle’s brush. Maison Ladurée’s Christmas collection unfolds as a meditation on French artistic inheritance, drawn from the sun imagery that animated the palaces of Louis XIV and coloured the imaginative worlds of Jean Cocteau and Georges Braque.

The collection speaks in macarons. Housed in boxes that scale from eight to forty two pieces, each presentation becomes an object unto itself. Pyramidal structures in white and gold hold orbs of confectionery stacked like precious baubles; rectangular gift sets layer beneath sheets printed with the sun motif, scattered across fields of tiny stars. A hand reaches out to claim a macaron from an open box; inside, the candied shells glow in tones of rose, pale yellow, pistachio and amber. These are creations by Chef Julien Alvarez, whose seasonal work for the house has become inseparable from Christmas itself.

The setting itself echoes the collection’s mood. Behind the gift boxes and their architectural presentation, decorative suns in gilded metal catch and reflect the room’s light. Cream coloured shells and dried seed pods complete the tableau. It is generous without excess, opulent without strain. The collection is available from November 4, online and at participating boutiques.
