A cream marble table catches the afternoon light as it angles across a room where movement has slowed to something deliberate and rare. The woven pendant lamp casts its warm skeleton of shadow; two cream chairs wait beneath an archway framed in soft panelling. This is the grammar of ease at Mandarin Oriental Savoy, the 5-star hotel on Paradeplatz that blends modern design with timeless elegance.

Originally built in 1838, the city’s oldest luxury hotel received a meticulous facelift at the hands of Mandarin Oriental but still retains its historic charm and excellent city center address. The renovation, entrusted to designer Tristan Auer, stripped back to essential luxury: cool toned rooms with brass framed accents, a marble bathroom where the tub sits like a stone meditation, windows that frame Lake Zurich’s quietude. Every line serves ease.

Positioned on the prestigious Paradeplatz, Mandarin Oriental Savoy puts guests within arm’s reach of the city’s best shopping, top historic sights and the tranquil banks of Lake Zurich. Downstairs, award winning Italian cuisine is served in the ORSINI Restaurant, designed according to the concept by chef Antonio Guida, and French inspired delicacies in the Savoy Brasserie & Bar. The rooftop bar 1838, named in honor of the year the grand hotel was founded, offers magnificent panoramic views. Yet the true luxury lives in the quieter moments: a book open on a marble side table, the brass reading light bent toward the page, the knowledge that the city’s turbulence cannot touch this room.
