Mashreq has integrated generative artificial intelligence capabilities into its fraud risk management platform through collaboration with Clari5, a Perfios Company, reflecting the bank’s commitment to deploying sophisticated technology in service of financial security.
The development addresses three core operational priorities: enhancing the effectiveness of fraud detection systems, improving the productivity of financial crime analysts, and supporting more robust investigative decision making. These enhancements recognise that modern financial institutions face increasingly complex fraud landscapes, where the speed and consistency of response can significantly influence outcomes.
Rania Nerhal, Group Chief Client Experience and Conduct Officer at Mashreq, noted that generative AI’s principal value lies in its capacity to interpret complex information and respond to emerging risks with greater speed, consistency, efficiency and precision. This deployment forms part of the bank’s broader investment in evolving its fraud risk management framework through technology, positioning the institution to address both current and anticipated threats within an increasingly sophisticated financial crime environment.
The integration of AI capabilities within fraud detection systems enables analysts to process larger datasets more rapidly while maintaining the rigour required for accurate risk assessment. By automating routine analytical tasks, the platform allows specialists to focus their expertise on more nuanced investigative work, where human judgment and institutional knowledge prove most valuable.
This initiative underscores the banking sector’s wider recognition that technology and human expertise must work in concert to manage financial crime effectively. As regulatory requirements continue to evolve and fraud methodologies grow more sophisticated, institutions investing in advanced analytical tools position themselves to protect clients and maintain the integrity of financial systems. Mashreq’s approach reflects the institution’s commitment to strengthening its risk governance at a time when such vigilance defines responsible banking practice.
