Monies works with stone the way a painter works with pigment: layering colour, texture and luminosity until something entirely alive emerges. This new necklace, strung with ocean jasper, agate, strawberry quartz and rose quartz, demonstrates the studio’s patient eye for composition and its understanding of how natural materials shift in light.
The palette unfolds across pale cream and white beads punctuated by deeper veins of amber, sage green and dusty rose. Ocean jasper brings its characteristic patterns, those intricate mottled surfaces that seem to hold entire landscapes within a sphere. Strawberry quartz contributes warmth; rose quartz, a gentle blush. Agate, that most versatile of stones, moves between tones, binding the composition together.
What distinguishes a Monies piece is the restraint alongside richness. Each bead is substantial, spherical, allowing weight and movement. But it is the maplewood connector at the clasp that deserves attention: warm, tactile, grounding all that luminous stone in something organic and human made. The wood sits as a counterpoint to the minerals, a reminder that jewellery at Monies draws from the whole of the natural world, not merely its gems.
The studio, founded in Copenhagen by Gerda Lynggaard and Finn Andersen, has long pursued this sensibility: jewellery that feels essential rather than decorative, pieces that age beautifully and sit comfortably on the body. This necklace belongs to that lineage, wearable sculpture that gathers significance through time.
