PRADA TIMECAPSULE ENTERS A NEW CHAPTER WITH ITS NFT COLLECTION

Since its launch in 2019, Prada Timecapsule has treated limited-edition fashion as an event shaped by scarcity and anticipation. Its latest evolution connects each physical Timecapsule release with a gifted NFT, extending Prada’s long-running experiment with digital culture into a new form of collecting.

Prada Timecapsule was created around a simple but compelling idea: make a particular fashion object available for a limited period, then allow its scarcity to become part of the experience. Launched in Europe on 5 December 2019, the project introduced a new item on the first Thursday of each month, available exclusively online for 24 hours. What began as a tightly controlled digital retail format has since developed into one of Prada’s more distinctive ongoing special projects.

The latest chapter adds another dimension. Prada has introduced the Timecapsule NFT Collection, with each new drop connected to both a limited-edition physical product and a gifted NFT. The physical object remains at the centre of the proposition, but its digital counterpart creates a parallel record of the release, bringing together fashion collecting and the evolving language of Web3.

The initiative sits within Prada Crypted, the dedicated NFT space on Prada.com and Prada’s community presence on Discord. Prada describes the platform as a meeting point for fashion and a wider cultural landscape encompassing art, architecture, cinema, music and Web3. Rather than treating digital technology as a separate universe, the project places it alongside the cultural disciplines that have long informed the house’s identity.

Timecapsule itself operates according to a carefully defined rhythm. A new piece is introduced once a month, on the first Thursday, and is available online for only 24 hours. That restricted window gives each release a distinct sense of occasion: there is a particular date, a particular object and a limited period in which to acquire it. The format has remained consistent since the project began, while its successive editions have allowed Prada to explore different expressions of its collections.

The current archive illustrates the continuity of that model. Prada’s official Timecapsule page records the more recent releases, including Drop #74 in February 2026, Drop #75 in March, Drop #76 in April, Drop #77 in May, Drop #78 in June and Drop #79 in July. The July release is recorded as sold out, as are the preceding editions listed on the page.

With the NFT collection, the notion of a time capsule becomes particularly literal. A physical fashion object is designed to exist in the material world, while a digital token provides a corresponding presence within a blockchain-based environment. The two elements are connected from the point of release, creating a relationship between what can be worn or held and what can be digitally owned and recorded.

That relationship is characteristic of Prada’s broader approach to technology. The house has repeatedly used digital platforms not simply as alternative sales channels, but as spaces for experimentation and cultural exchange. Prada Crypted extends this approach by creating a dedicated environment for conversations around Web3 while maintaining links to the creative fields that sit alongside fashion.

The significance of Timecapsule also lies in its continuity. Many fashion collaborations and digital experiments are conceived as temporary projects, but Timecapsule has developed through a recurring structure that allows each edition to become part of a larger archive. The monthly cadence creates a record of changing ideas, materials and visual directions, while the limited availability ensures that individual releases retain their own identity.

The project’s evolution reflects a broader change in how fashion objects can be documented and collected. Traditionally, provenance has been tied to the physical characteristics of an item: its edition, date, materials and place of purchase. Digital ownership introduces another layer to that history. For Timecapsule, the NFT is not presented simply as an independent digital product; it is attached to the physical edition, creating a connection between the object and its digital counterpart.

This is also where Prada’s long history becomes relevant. The house was founded by Mario Prada in Milan in 1913, when he opened a luxury goods shop in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The original business specialised in travel articles and accessories, with an emphasis on sophisticated techniques and carefully selected materials. In 1919, Prada was appointed an Official Supplier to the Italian Royal Household, incorporating the House of Savoy’s coat of arms and knotted-rope design into its identity.

The company underwent a significant transformation in the late 20th century when Miuccia Prada’s creative direction met Patrizio Bertelli’s entrepreneurial approach in 1977, establishing the foundations for Prada’s international expansion. The house subsequently broadened its activities across menswear, womenswear and cultural projects, while maintaining a strong connection between fashion and wider creative disciplines.

That heritage makes the Timecapsule project an interesting continuation rather than an isolated technological exercise. Prada began with objects intended for travel and everyday use, developed a reputation through design and material experimentation, and eventually expanded into a much broader cultural practice. Timecapsule takes the idea of the object as a carrier of identity and gives it a contemporary digital context.

For clients in the UAE, Prada’s current official store locator lists one boutique in Abu Dhabi, at The Galleria Al Maryah Island, and four locations in Dubai: The Dubai Mall Level Shoe District, The Dubai Mall Fashion Avenue, Mall of the Emirates and La Mer Bâoli. The Timecapsule releases themselves are online exclusives, but Prada’s boutiques provide a physical point of connection with the wider house.

There is a certain elegance to the way Timecapsule has evolved. The premise remains remarkably restrained: one object, one moment, one limited window. The addition of NFTs does not discard that original structure; instead, it gives the idea of collecting another dimension.

In that sense, Prada Timecapsule is less about choosing between the physical and digital worlds than recognising that fashion now occupies both. A garment or accessory can be experienced through its material presence while carrying an accompanying digital identity. As the project continues, each release becomes not only a limited object from a particular moment in Prada’s history, but also a record of how that moment was understood and collected.
