SJP Wealth’s Embrace employee network gathered colleagues at Lombard Street to mark Black History Month with an evening devoted to culture, heritage and community. The celebration brought together colleagues from across the firm to explore stories and traditions from the Black diaspora, moving from shared meals and music to deeper conversations about identity, achievement and collective history.

The evening reflected a broader commitment within the organisation to create spaces where colleagues could learn from one another’s experiences and celebrate the contributions of Black communities. Tables laden with traditional food created natural gathering points for conversation; displays and materials invited guests to explore narratives and histories often overlooked in mainstream discourse.

Recognising influential figures and voices

Embrace partnered with Unity, another of the firm’s employee networks, to shine a particular light on influential Black women throughout history and contemporary sport. The joint initiative created dedicated moments for colleagues to reflect on achievement, resilience and leadership across generations, from pioneering figures to those reshaping their fields today. Guests moved between displays and conversations, each encounter an opportunity to deepen understanding and forge connections around shared values.

The gathering at Lombard Street embodied the principle that meaningful celebration requires time, thoughtful curation and genuine participation. Rather than a ceremonial nod to the calendar, the evening was constructed as an active space for discovery and dialogue, where colleagues could encounter new perspectives and leave with expanded knowledge of the histories and communities they were honouring. In bringing two employee networks together, SJP Wealth signalled that such work belongs at the centre of organisational life, not at its margins.
