The Twenty Five Bed by De La Espada Atelier moves beyond the merely functional. A solid wood frame supports a headboard that offers two distinct languages of craft: soft rush woven through junco, or tailored upholstery, depending on the choice of the maker and the sleeper. The woven version reveals something most furnishings conceal. Danish paper cord forms the warp through which junco grass passes, and the rear of the headboard displays what lesser makers might hide: the cut ends of the grass, bristling and textured, each stalk a record of the labour involved.

The bed speaks to a lineage of thoughtful European design. Carlo Scarpa’s sensibility for materials and their honest expression, Charlotte Perriand’s rigorous approach to form and function, Josef Frank’s ornamental restraint all move through this frame. The wood itself forms a gentle geometry, its proportions considered, its surface warm beneath the hand. The headboard becomes less a barrier than an armature, a loom made functional, which is precisely what makes it remarkable.

This is not decoration masquerading as substance. The Twenty Five Bed asks something of its maker and rewards the sleeper with the quiet knowledge that every element belongs there by necessity and by choice. The woven headboard choice means living with visible craft daily, a textural conversation between natural material and the hands that arranged it.
