VACHERON CONSTANTIN EXPANDS THE OVERSEAS COLLECTION WITH TWO NEW 34.5MM SELF-WINDING MODELS

Vacheron Constantin has expanded its Overseas Self-Winding collection with two new 34.5mm models, bringing a more compact proportion to one of the manufacture’s contemporary sports-watch families. Offered in either 18K 5N pink gold or stainless steel, the new references retain the distinctive design language of the Overseas while introducing richer dial colours and a selection of interchangeable bracelets and straps.

The 34.5mm diameter is central to the new designs. It creates a considered balance between the practical character associated with a sports watch and the more refined proportions often sought in a smaller timepiece. The dimensions also allow the watches to sit comfortably on a range of wrists, particularly those who prefer a more discreet case size without moving away from the visual identity of the Overseas.

That identity remains immediately recognisable. The bezel takes its geometric form from the Maltese Cross, the emblem that has been associated with Vacheron Constantin since the 19th century. On these non-gem-set models, the hexagonal bezel is given particular visual prominence, framing the dial while preserving the clean architecture of the case.

The Overseas bracelet carries the same motif into its construction. Its central links echo the shape of the Maltese Cross, creating a visual connection between the bezel and bracelet. The result is a design that balances angular detailing with the softer curves of the case and links.

For the new models, Vacheron Constantin has chosen lacquered dials to provide much of the visual distinction. The 18K 5N pink-gold model features a warm rose-gold-toned dial, while the stainless-steel version introduces a considerably deeper red. Both surfaces are treated with contrasting finishes that allow the colour to shift subtly as light moves across the dial.

On the pink-gold model, the dial combines a sunburst satin-finished centre with a velvety minute track. Applied hour markers and hands in pink gold continue the monochromatic palette, while blue Super-LumiNova provides visibility in lower-light conditions. The combination keeps the overall appearance cohesive, allowing the variations in surface finish to provide much of the dial’s depth.

The stainless-steel reference takes a more assertive approach. Its deep-red lacquered dial is finished with a satin sunburst centre and a velvet-textured outer minute track. Hand-applied hour markers are crafted in 18K white gold and treated with blue Super-LumiNova, creating a sharper contrast against the saturated red background.

Although the two watches share their basic architecture, their different materials and colours give them distinct personalities. The pink-gold model leans towards warmth and tonal harmony, while the stainless-steel version introduces stronger contrast through the combination of red, steel and blue accents.

Both remain deliberately free from diamond setting. This keeps attention on the geometry of the Overseas case, the dial finishing and the relationship between the various materials. The approach also preserves the collection’s connection with sporting elegance rather than moving the designs towards conventional jewellery-watch territory.

Versatility is further built into the watches through Vacheron Constantin’s interchangeable strap system. Each model is supplied with three options, allowing the wearer to alter the appearance without tools.

The pink-gold version arrives with a pink-gold bracelet, a white rubber strap and a white alligator leather strap. The combination moves between the more substantial presence of the metal bracelet and the lighter, more relaxed character of the rubber strap, while the alligator option offers a more formal interpretation.

The stainless-steel model follows the same three-part concept but adopts a stronger colour story. Alongside the stainless-steel bracelet are a deep-red rubber strap and a red alligator leather strap finished with matching tone-on-tone stitching. The colour coordination gives the watch a particularly unified appearance when worn on either leather or rubber.

Changing between the options is designed to be straightforward. The system operates without the need for specialist tools, with an easy-fit mechanism allowing the wearer to adapt the watch according to occasion or preference. It is a practical feature, but it also changes the character of the timepiece: the same case and dial can take on a noticeably different expression depending on what surrounds it.

That flexibility is particularly relevant to the Overseas collection, whose design has long occupied a space between sport and refinement. The new references do not abandon that duality. Instead, the smaller case, expressive dials and multiple strap options offer several ways of interpreting it.

The heritage behind that approach extends to Vacheron Constantin itself. Founded in 1755 in Geneva by Jean-Marc Vacheron, the manufacture is recognised as one of the oldest continuously operating Swiss watchmakers. Its history encompasses traditional watchmaking, complicated movements and decorative craftsmanship, while its contemporary collections continue to combine this heritage with more modern forms. The Maltese Cross became associated with the manufacture in 1880 and remains a defining element of its identity.

The Overseas collection emerged from the manufacture’s interest in combining technical capability with a more contemporary sporting aesthetic. Its design has evolved over successive generations, while the Maltese Cross-inspired forms have remained a consistent visual thread. The current collection includes watches ranging from time-only and dual-time models to more complicated chronographs and perpetual calendars.

These two 34.5mm Self-Winding models occupy a particularly accessible point within that broader family. Their proportions make them comparatively compact, while the automatic movement and three-strap configuration preserve the functional qualities expected of a modern everyday watch.

The choice of lacquered colour also gives the latest references a contemporary character without requiring a radical departure from the established Overseas design. Instead of altering the silhouette, Vacheron Constantin has concentrated on scale, surface and colour — three elements capable of changing the perception of a familiar form.

The pink-gold and deep-red versions consequently offer two interpretations of the same idea. One is defined by tonal warmth and polished continuity; the other by saturated colour and contrast. Both retain the geometric bezel, integrated bracelet design and interchangeable strap system that anchor them within the Overseas family.

In an increasingly varied watch landscape, versatility can be as much about expression as function. These new Overseas Self-Winding models acknowledge that distinction. Their proportions, colours and interchangeable straps allow the wearer to decide how prominently the watch should speak on a given day.

The result is a pair of watches that approach the sports-watch category with a lighter touch: compact in scale, expressive in colour and deliberately adaptable. Rather than choosing between formal refinement and everyday practicality, the new Overseas references leave room for both — an approach that feels particularly suited to a modern wardrobe.
