Venini’s Volcano transforms fire’s raw power into architectural light

Fire surrenders to craft in Venini’s latest architectural vision. At Downtown Design Dubai through 8 November, the Murano master glassmaker presents Volcano, a new modular element born from raw material meeting furnace heat. The concept draws lineage to Manfredo Vaccari Giglioli’s Pannelli from the 1970s, reinterpreted through contemporary architectural ambition.

Blocks of glass in magma tones compose the installation, their surfaces capturing and casting light with sculptural precision. Amber and honey hues glow against pale walls, creating a rhythm of illumination and shadow that shifts with the viewer’s angle. The glass catches light as a prism might, each facet of the blocks rendering transparent geometry into something almost geological, as though molten earth had cooled mid transformation into architectural form.

Venini’s mastery lies in this dialogue between ancient Murano technique and contemporary design intention. The Volcano element speaks to how raw glass, subjected to centuries of artisanal knowledge, becomes not decoration but spatial storytelling. Paired with furnishings by Edra, the installation occupies Booth A29, demonstrating how architectural glass can define an interior’s emotional and chromatic landscape.

The work affirms what contract designers and architects have long understood: that Venini’s glass elements function as more than infill or accent. They are protagonists in space, defining how light behaves, how colour resonates, how a room breathes. Forged in Fire makes this visible.
