Opened in July 2026, W Riyadh–KAFD marks the first Saudi Arabian address for W Hotels, placing the brand within King Abdullah Financial District, one of Riyadh’s most significant mixed-use developments. The hotel joins a district designed to bring offices, residences, retail, hospitality and cultural destinations into a connected urban environment, with direct access to the KAFD Metro providing links across the capital.
The setting is central to the hotel’s character. Rather than treating the property as an isolated retreat, its design and programming respond to the pace of contemporary Riyadh, creating spaces intended to shift naturally from daytime meetings and coffee to dining, music and evening gatherings. The hotel comprises 210 guestrooms, including 17 suites, two penthouses and the W Penthouse, alongside restaurants, lounges, wellness facilities and more than 1,000 square metres of flexible event space.
Design studio LW Design developed the interiors with references to Saudi heritage woven throughout the contemporary architecture. Stone and veined marble recall the country’s desert and mountain landscapes, while geometric textures and textiles draw on Al Sadu, the traditional weaving practice associated with the region. The result is an environment that uses local references selectively rather than reproducing them literally.

The arrival experience is particularly expressive. A six-metre tapestry by Saudi artist Abdulnasser Gharem provides a focal point in the lobby, alongside sculptural elements and expansive curtains whose form references the early stages of weaving. Elsewhere, the W Lounge takes cues from traditional gathering spaces, with circular banquettes and sunken tables inspired by Bedouin firepit arrangements. Gharem’s work continues into the guestrooms, where English and Arabic typography appears alongside a palette of green, ruby, gold and bronze.
Accommodation follows the same balance of contemporary convenience and regional influence. Guestrooms are equipped with smart controls, connectivity and ambient lighting, while the larger suites open towards Riyadh through floor-to-ceiling windows. The 390-square-metre W Penthouse expands the residential character further, with two bedrooms, separate living and dining areas, a kitchenette, office and gym space incorporating steam and sauna facilities. A sculptural installation of wooden and illuminated spheres references subha, traditional prayer beads associated with reflection and mindfulness.
Food and drink form another important part of the hotel’s public identity. Sira introduces Latin American cooking to the property, with an open kitchen and asado-style cooking over fire. Beni operates throughout the day as a coffee house serving speciality coffee and artisanal ice cream, offering a more informal setting for meetings or an afternoon pause. At WET Deck, Mediterranean-inspired dishes accompany an outdoor pool setting, cabanas and views of the surrounding skyline.
The hotel’s W Lounge extends into the evening, combining Middle Eastern influences with music and a social atmosphere. Sahari, whose name refers to staying awake late, is also part of the property’s wider dining and entertainment concept, with the rooftop venue designed around performances and social events. Together, the venues give the hotel several distinct rhythms rather than relying on a single signature restaurant or lounge.

Wellness is similarly integrated into the property rather than treated as a separate afterthought. AWAY Spa provides treatment spaces alongside facilities including a sauna and steam room, while FIT offers a dedicated fitness environment equipped for contemporary training. The hotel also includes event facilities designed to accommodate both business gatherings and private occasions, reflecting its position within one of Riyadh’s principal commercial districts.
The hotel’s service philosophy draws from W Hotels’ established Whatever/Whenever approach, which has long positioned flexibility and personalisation at the centre of the brand’s guest experience. W describes its approach to luxury as one centred on freedom and self-expression, while maintaining a strong emphasis on design, culture and community.
W Hotels was established in New York in 1998, when W New York opened and introduced a more contemporary lifestyle proposition to the Starwood Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Marriott’s corporate history records the brand’s launch as an important development in its approach to design-led hospitality, with W distinguished by its distinctive personality, design focus and Whatever/Whenever service. Today, W Hotels forms part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio and operates across a range of urban and resort destinations internationally.

The Saudi opening arrives during a period of significant development for Riyadh’s hospitality sector. KAFD itself describes the district as a business and lifestyle destination, with its growing hotel offering intended to serve both business and leisure travellers. The arrival of W Hotels therefore places the brand within a broader transformation of the capital’s hospitality and urban infrastructure, rather than simply adding another international hotel to the city.
Its location reinforces that relationship. W Riyadh–KAFD is situated on Al Aqeeq Street within the Financial District, with KAFD Metro nearby and King Khalid International Airport approximately 34 kilometres away. The combination of transport access and the district’s concentration of workplaces, residences and leisure destinations gives the hotel a distinctly metropolitan orientation.
There is a certain significance in W Hotels choosing Riyadh for its first Saudi Arabian address. The brand arrives with a visual language and hospitality model shaped by more than two decades of international experience, yet the property has been developed with specific attention to its surroundings. Saudi textiles, artistic references, local architectural traditions and the evolving character of KAFD give the hotel a sense of place without abandoning W’s contemporary identity.
For a city undergoing such rapid change, that balance feels particularly relevant. W Riyadh–KAFD does not attempt to separate Riyadh’s heritage from its modern ambitions; instead, its design and programming place both within the same frame. As the capital’s skyline continues to evolve, the hotel’s opening offers another indication of how international hospitality is adapting to a Saudi Arabia that is increasingly confident in defining its own contemporary vocabulary.
