ZS Urban Jazz Quartet Brings Lisbon’s Pulse to Tivoli

Lisbon possesses a particular gift for harbouring music within its urban fabric, a soundscape that shifts and breathes with the city itself. On 26 November at seven in the evening, the ZS Urban Jazz Quartet will distil this essence into performance, bringing their distinctive musical language to the lobby of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade as part of the hotel’s Live Sessions programme.

The quartet emerges from a creative vision rooted in the city’s pulse. Zé Soares, who leads both guitar and composition, conceives pieces that sit at the fertile border between written form and spontaneous exploration. Alongside him, José Mestre on bass clarinet, Pedro Pinto on double bass and Bruno Pedroso on drums form an ensemble calibrated to one another through years of collaborative endeavour. What emerges from their instruments is a musical language unafraid of silence or unexpected turns, where the architecture of a composition might suddenly shift beneath the weight of intuition.

The performance takes place within the hotel’s architectural heart, where the lobby becomes a concert hall animated by acoustic possibility. The mezzanine offers an alternative vantage from which to absorb the experience, allowing visitors to discover the music from another plane entirely. This spatial generosity speaks to the nature of the Live Sessions itself: music as an offering, rather than a transaction.

There is no admission charge. The evening remains open to all who wish to encounter what four musicians, in genuine collaboration, might conjure from their instruments and from one another. Such occasions remind us that luxury, at its most refined, often involves simply creating the conditions for something beautiful to unfold without impediment.
