Maysha Mohamedi’s Earth Plane, a new work created in 2025, emerges from a period of deliberate quietude and inner work. During the time of its making, the artist was exploring walking meditation, a practice that offered passage toward personal healing and a deepened relationship with the natural world. The canvas becomes a record of this intimate communion, a visual meditation on the restorative exchange between self and landscape.

The painting moves across its surface with the spare, considered language Mohamedi brings to abstraction. Vivid greens meet deep navy and cream, their edges meeting with the precision of botanical form yet the fluidity of watercolour. Delicate lines drift across the composition like paths traced by contemplation, anchored by textured marks that suggest both growth and stillness. It is work that honours the quiet and the elemental, drawing its quiet power from restraint rather than assertion.
Earth Plane will appear in The Contemporary Austin’s annual Art Dinner benefit auction on Saturday, November 7, beginning at 6pm at Laguna Gloria. The evening brings together collectors, patrons and those drawn to contemporary practice in support of the institution’s programming and acquisitions. Pace Gallery represents Mohamedi’s work.
