Water in the desert demands both wisdom and will. The Zayed National Museum and the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah have together shaped an exhibition that moves across the Emirates to examine the quiet reverence with which the nation has tended to its soil and stewarded its most precious resource. A Shared Vision: Innovation and Agriculture runs from 5 November 2026 to 31 March 2027, housed initially at Bayt 17 in Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village in Ras Al Khaimah, where the past lives in the present.
The exhibition unfolds the work of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, whose vision transformed the arid landscape through restoration of ancient falaj irrigation systems and the establishment of experimental farms. Rather than present agriculture as mere productivity, the curation traces the interplay between environmental stewardship and technological progress, between the knowledge held in generations of coastal and desert communities and the innovations that have allowed the Emirates to flourish.

Traditional methods meet forward thinking. The exhibition does not separate old from new but shows how each informs the other, how the principles embedded in falaj engineering echo through contemporary water management, and how experimental farming carries forward ancestral understanding of crops, seasons and soil. The narrative speaks to values of collaboration and shared responsibility that have anchored the nation’s development.
This is not archaeology or nostalgia. The exhibition holds up a mirror to sustainability itself, asking what endures and what must evolve. It travels across the Emirates, inviting the country to see its own story reflected back with clarity and grace.
