Each piece from the collection is named after an island from the Portuguese archipelago. The forms unfold as islands themselves, separate entities that compose naturally together: Miguel, Jorge, Terceira, Faial, Graciosa. Luca Nichetto is an acclaimed Italian designer with offices in Venice and Stockholm. His work here reads as a conversation between geometry and touch, between the mathematical precision of curved lines and the warmth of wood grain.

The upholstery wraps these pieces in a soft, embracing fabric that rises generously from the seats. What distinguishes them is the platform base: each piece has a soft, rounded, sculptural shape made from luxurious upholstery and rich solid wood, highlighting the craft of De La Espada. Materials include oak, ash or walnut in a wide range of finishes and a range of fabric and leather options. The timber replaces the expected skeleton of legs, adding visual lightness and material honesty. You can see how hands have met the wood, how the surface breathes.
The ‘islands’ were designed to be styled separately, or combined for a striking piece of furniture. The individual products are not fixed to one another and can be configured in a number of ways, and combined with other pieces from the Azores collection. De La Espada crafts each product to the highest standard at their own production facility in Northern Portugal. Each piece arrives as made to order, shaped to your exact choice of wood finish and upholstery.
