Bill Winters, Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered, stood alongside policymakers and venture partners on the stage at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 2 and 3 November, where over 45,000 participants, 1,000 speakers and 800 companies and exhibitors gathered to examine the forces reshaping global finance.
The bank’s participation extended deeper than the main platform. Mary Huen, who leads Standard Chartered’s Hong Kong, Greater China and North Asia business, called the launch of tokenised deposits “the first in our global network.” The launch came on the opening day of Hong Kong FinTech Week, where the HKMA had advanced EnsembleTX to a stage that supports 24/7 real value transactions. Alongside these developments, the bank presented the latest progress of HKDAP, its HKD backed stablecoin.
Ole Matthiessen, the bank’s global head of transaction services and digital assets, said the aim is to move tokenisation “from experimentation towards broader scalable adoption.” The week’s focus on finance, artificial intelligence and connectivity offered the natural setting for Standard Chartered’s vision of a more connected financial ecosystem, one in which money and assets flow seamlessly across borders and markets.
