Amanbagh’s iconic pool disappeared last Diwali beneath something entirely unexpected: a luminous 110-foot reimagining of the traditional kandīl lantern, woven from locally sourced khadi and cast in warm, diffused light. The Light Beyond was Aman’s response to the Festival of Lights, a meditation on how a global luxury philosophy takes root in each destination it inhabits, shaped by local soil, craft and spirit.

The installation itself moved slowly into view as guests approached through illuminated corridors of khadi panels, their surface soft and breathing with texture. The scale was generous but never ostentatious, restraint itself becoming the luxury. Sculptural interpretations of traditional Diwali puja flowers rose from the grounds around the pool, each arrangement reading as contemporary art without abandoning the vocabulary of devotion.

A bespoke musical composition wove together flamenco with Rajasthani manganiyar traditions, a collaboration that should have felt unlikely but instead felt entirely inevitable, as if both traditions had been waiting for this particular moment. Guests gathered at a shared festive table, the kitchen drawing on Rajasthani flavours and techniques, the conversation and candlelight moving in the soft glow cast across the property.

The Light Beyond lasted only days, a purposeful impermanence that gave it the quality of ceremony rather than spectacle. For Aman, the gesture was clear: a welcome to guests, a tribute to heritage, and a quiet statement about what happens when a luxury house listens genuinely to the place it inhabits, allowing tradition and contemporary vision to hold equal weight.
