MGM China has opened MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay in Shekou, adding a new 298-room waterfront hotel to the fast-evolving hospitality landscape of the Greater Bay Area. The property sits in Prince Bay, close to Shekou Cruise Home Port, giving it a strategic position between Shenzhen’s urban core, regional ferry links and international maritime traffic.

A hotel designed around the bay

Every guestroom and suite is described as ocean-facing, with floor-to-ceiling windows intended to keep the harbour and changing light in view throughout the day. The property is owned by Yunnan Xiangfeng Industrial Group and operated under MGM through MGM Hospitality Group (Asia Pacific), expanding the company’s mainland hotel presence beyond its better-known Macau resort footprint.

The hospitality offer is built around five dining venues. Yu Hoi Heen focuses on Chinese cuisine, MEET PLUS draws on flavours from Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, Festival provides all-day dining, while The PURPLE rooftop sky bar and the Lobby Lounge add more social, view-led spaces.

Greater Bay Area ambitions

The scale of the event facilities signals that Prince Bay is not being positioned purely as a leisure hotel. More than 3,000 square metres of flexible meeting and celebration space includes a panoramic pre-function area, outdoor terrace, multifunction rooms and VIP lounges. A fitness centre and heated swimming pool overlooking the urban harbour add a wellness layer to the business-and-leisure mix.

For MGM, the opening is also a strategic statement. Shenzhen is one of the Greater Bay Area’s principal international gateways, and Shekou in particular has a long history of connecting the mainland with Hong Kong, Macau and overseas markets. The hotel therefore sits at the intersection of tourism, business travel, cultural exchange and high-end urban leisure.

The timing is equally notable. Luxury hospitality groups are increasingly treating the Greater Bay Area as a connected travel ecosystem rather than a collection of separate city markets. A guest arriving through Shenzhen can now move between waterfront hospitality, Macau entertainment, Hong Kong retail and regional cultural destinations with far greater ease than a decade ago.

MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay is designed to capture that movement. Its proposition is less about reproducing Las Vegas or Macau and more about translating MGM’s service and entertainment DNA into a contemporary Chinese waterfront setting — a model that could become increasingly important as the brand expands its hospitality platform across Asia.
