Miista opened its permanent Los Angeles home on Melrose Avenue with an installation by Ananas Ananas, the artist collective for whom food is something far more intricate than sustenance. For them, it functions as political statement, as social commentary, as a ritualised and playful performance. A way of bringing people together, and of course, something absolutely delicious.

The installation itself became a canvas for the evening. Stainless steel leaves and sculptural wooden forms rose from the floor, their surfaces soon layered with edible decoration, sticky fingerprints and traces of the crowd that had gathered to witness, discuss and ultimately destroy this ephemeral artwork. By the evening’s end, what remained was the imperfect beauty of fingerprints on metal, evidence of connection and consumption.

The work speaks to Miista’s own philosophy: the brand gravitates toward makers and thinkers who take risks, who ask questions and challenge conventions within their craft. This is not a brand that follows convention; rather, it surrounds itself with artists and collaborators who approach their work with purpose and provocation.

The Los Angeles store now serves as a permanent gathering place for the Miista community, a physical manifestation of the label’s commitment to footwear that walks the line between commercial necessity and artistic expression. The opening event, captured in photographs by Joëlle Grace, documented not a transaction but a moment of cultural exchange, where art was meant to be engaged with, touched, consumed and shared.
