Pace Gallery transforms its Chelsea presence across two buildings on West 25th Street with three substantial exhibitions that each demand sustained attention. Elmgreen & Dragset’s Transition occupies the flagship locations at 508 and 510 West 25th Street, their rust brown architectural forms channelling both shelter and abstraction into monumental interior presences. The Danish Swedish duo’s work creates threshold moments within the gallery’s white cube, their curved metal volumes opening to reveal gridded windows and inviting contemplation rather than passage.

At 540 West 25th Street, Li Hei Di’s the year of mud renders the canvas as a territory of pure sensation. Vivid turquoise grounds collide with phosphorescent greens, dusty roses and deep purples, layered with gestural marks that suggest landscape as much as pure abstraction. The work channels the physical and the ethereal, a vocabulary of mud and sky compressed into paint, pigment and the artist’s own restless hand.

Within the same building, Lucas Samaras’s Boxes and Reconstructions draws on five decades of the artist’s investigations into the box as container and as metaphor. Box #90, dating from 1974, exemplifies his approach: a wooden structure lined with iridescent thread in bold primary stripes, its interior chambers holding white sand and found objects. Each box functions as a cabinet of wonder, a private architecture that opens to reveal accumulated surfaces, materials and the particular alchemy of Samaras’s vision.
Elmgreen & Dragset runs through 16 January 2027. Li Hei Di and Lucas Samaras close 19 December 2026 and 23 January 2027 respectively. The gallery is located at 508, 510 and 540 West 25th Street, Chelsea.
