Three early F.P. Journe creations will cross the block at Sotheby’s Geneva this November, each a seminal work from François Paul Journe’s successive refinement of horological principle and aesthetic restraint. Together, they trace the watchmaker’s trajectory from technical innovation through jewellery integration to limited edition specialisation.

The Chronomètre à Résonance stands foremost among them. Conceived around 2002, this first generation example carries an 18k pink gold case, its warm luminosity catching light across a dial dominated by the mechanism’s most defining feature: two independent regulating organs that harness resonance to achieve extraordinary stability and precision. The watch remains among the most intellectually rigorous wristwatches ever made, a triumph of physics rendered intimate.

The Octa Divine, launched in 2003 as the inaugural piece of Journe’s Jewellery Collection, marries technical purity with decorative opulence. Its 36mm platinum case and matching dial are both set with diamonds; numbered 007-04D, this example is believed to be the second earliest offered at public auction. The design distils the Octa into its most refined expression, uniting precision with the luminous geometry of precious stones.
Completing the trio is a limited edition Octa Chronographe from the Ruthenium Collection, an edition restricted to ninety nine examples of each model. Numbered 06 of 99, it combines a flyback chronograph mechanism with an oversized date window and an exceptional five day power reserve. The ruthenium coated dial and movement lend it a subtle metallic patina, distinguishing it unmistakably from its yellow or white gold siblings.
The watches will be exhibited at the Mandarin Oriental Geneva from 5 to 7 November, with the live Important Watches sales running across 8 and 9 November. Bidding opens online at Sotheby’s.
