Ella Risbridger, poet and food writer, brings her particular gift for finding joy to the Edinburgh restaurant Valvona & Crolla on the evening of 14 November. The inaugural Poetry Tasting Menu, part of Push The Boat Out, Edinburgh’s only poetry festival, pairs selected verses with a delicately composed two course meal, creating the kind of experience where words and flavour speak to one another.
Risbridger’s work seeks pleasure and tenderness in an unforgiving world. Her debut cookbook, which Nigella Lawson described as a manual for living and a declaration of hope, and her editorial work on the anthology Set Me On Fire: A Poem For Every Feeling, both reflect this philosophy. At Valvona & Crolla, known for its philosophy of bringing generosity and joy to the table, the pairing feels inevitable.
The evening runs from 6:30 to 8:30pm, beginning with a glass of fizz and Valvona & Crolla’s signature focaccia before the meal itself unfolds. The restaurant’s Italian heritage and deep commitment to fine ingredients make it a natural home for an evening where care matters in every detail, from the opening course to the final word.
Tickets are available through pushtheboatout.org and include the welcome glass of fizz, focaccia and the complete two course meal with poetry.
